Wake Up You Nit!

A nit is a player that hardly plays in a pot; you may also know them as rocks. These types of players have the patience of a saint, but do manage to leave the game with more wins than losses, albeit not hugely profitable.

If you play a lot of poker - especially live - you will no doubt have noticed a player like this in your game. Do you ever wonder why they are not raising more? Considering they have such a tight image?

If you are playing against a nit, even with a strong hand, it is exceedingly difficult to call, especially if you are facing pre flop and heaving post flop aggression from them. With this in mind why don’t the nits raise and double/triple barrel with greater frequency?

When you are playing against a nit, the best you can hope for is they show up with pocket tens, pocket jack, or combinations of ace-queen. This is because it is the bottom end of their range, and you are not going to be facing worse.

So, if you are a nit, then what is the point of continuing with these types of hands when facing aggression?

Just ditch the hand, turn back into stone and wait for the next premium. Even against the loosest of opponents, if you are going to get it all-in with TT-JJ you are going to be up against an over pair, a set, or a flush draw with 40% equity on their hand.

So, if you are a nit, don’t worry; you are probably a small winner. Just try and bluff a little bit more often and win even more.
